The Student Who Stopped Re-Explaining Everything to AI
A college junior who survived midterms, papers, and group projects shares their story.
I'm a junior. Double major. History and Computer Science. Yes, I know that's unusual. No, I don't recommend it.
Between the two majors, I write a lot of papers. I debug a lot of code. I ask AI a lot of questions. And until recently, I answered the same questions over and over again.
Here's what a typical study session looked like for me:
"Explain the difference between parliamentary and presidential systems."
The AI gives me an answer. It's fine, but it's missing the historical context I need for my paper.
"No, focus on how each system handles executive accountability."
It corrects. Better.

It adds the detail. Good.
"Remember, for my paper, I need you to always include real-world examples when comparing political systems."
"Got it," it says.
I close the tab. I open a new one the next day.
"Explain the difference between parliamentary and presidential systems."
Same generic answer. Same missing context. Same missing examples. Same corrections. All over again.
It was like Groundhog Day, but for studying.
The same thing happened with my coding projects.
"Write a recursive function to traverse this tree."
It works.
"No, use a generator function instead. It's more memory efficient for large trees."
It corrects. Beautiful.
Next project. Different file. "Write a recursive function to traverse this tree."
Same generic function. Same missing optimization. Same correction. Again.
I was spending more time re-teaching the AI than actually using it.
